Coral Review

Established in 1926, Coral have been one of the largest bookmakers in the UK for not much shy of a century now. Whilst they are now firmly recognised as a worldwide brand, the bookmakers still lies pretty true to their roots with their main offices being situated in their country of origin.

Over the extensive lifespan of the company, the biggest change has come from the acquisition of Gala, a UK based gambling corporation, to form a multimillion pound business. Whilst not always one of the first names you think of when it comes to bookmaking, Coral are actually about as complete as you are going to find in the industry and have worked hard over the years to increase not only online exposure, but also more recently, mobile coverage.

Sports Betting

As with any top betting site these days, Coral have backed up their sports betting section with a host of features that we have covered below.

Betting Odds and Markets

Their betting markets are probably the most improved section of their bookmaker. They cover a really strong range of sports from American Football to UFC, but what's been impressive to see is how well they are covered. Granted, not all sports get the attention of your football or horse racing markets which are clearly their top sports, but most will include a pretty strong range of markets to pick from.

What was particularly impressive is their coverage of special events taking place. It just so happens that the World Cup is taking place when writing this review and they have included a World Cup Centre that gives you all the latest odds, news and information you need to make an informed pick. Whilst the World Cup is going to be a pretty one off competition, they do include dedicated sections for other competitions such as major horse racing meetings, football events, golf majors and the Olympics.

Their odds are pretty steady as well. They probably won't blow your socks off in terms of being the best priced throughout each sport, but they won't be too far away. As we mentioned earlier they run a lot of price enhancements for major events, so that’s definitely something to look out for.

Mobile Betting

Their app has come a long way from its almost shambolic first draft just a few years ago. It now functions very well and includes all the betting markets that you can get from their online bookmaker. There's not much that the app offers that the online bookmaker doesn’t, but we will say that it's clean, concise and also doesn’t strain too much on that valuable mobile browsing data.

Live Betting

Like a lot of bookmakers, Coral have a dedicated section for the live betting and you can a really good range of sports from it. We liked the fact that you could see upcoming betting markets as well as those ongoing so you can plan your bets in advance. Unfortunately no match centre or anything to really see what's going on in the match, so if you aren’t watching it live, it will be tough to use.

Live Streaming

A live streaming service is on offer from Coral and allows you to watch games from football, tennis, snooker, rugby and basketball from your PC as long as you have a positive balance. You can also stream direct from your mobile device but only football and tennis are currently on offer.

Casino Games

Coral casino works closely with one of the biggest games providers in the industry, Playtech. With this comes a plethora of games to choose from that are not only jam packed with features, but also are updated on a regular basis making it one of the most exciting software operators in the industry.

The casino is essentially browser based, but it does allow you to download their ‘Coral App’ to a Windows computer. Mac users, however, will have to go without, but the layout and design for each is exactly the same. One thing we will note is that due to the number of Java scripts that run on the casino, we had to disable ad-blockers to make it function properly.

The casino is available on all mobile operating systems as well. There isn’t actually a dedicated casino app as such, but this section can be accessed via the sports betting app, which actually is a good thing, keeping everything under one roof. The app itself allows you to access all the games and features that you would find from the browser based casino, apart from the fact that they have been optimised for mobile screens from as early as the iPhone 4s up to the latest 6+ model. No information was apparent with regards to Android, although we would guess that it were much the same, due to its popularity and success.

Table Games

As with most online casinos, variants of roulette and blackjack are the most popular table games on offer and these do make up the bulk of this section. On top of these however, you get 3 card brag, baccarat, Hold Em, Caribbean Stud, Craps, Pai Gow Poker, Red Dog, Sic Bo, Stravaganza, Tequila Poker and VIP games.

The slots section is the busiest and most impressive feature for Coral. You’re getting over 125 titles to choose from, all of which coming from the Playtech software mentioned earlier. Coral have also included a number of branded titles such as Kong, X-Men, Iron Man 2, Spider Man and Rocky.

Progressive Jackpots

Jackpot games are also a firm favourite with the casino and you can expect to see anything in the range of £100,000 to upwards of £1,000,000 for some of the more expansive titles.

Bingo Games

The Coral Bingo software is powered by Virtue Fusion, who just so happen to the be the sister company of their casino software provider, Playtech. The integration of Virtue Fusion means that Coral can boast one of the biggest back catalogues of games in the industry. It also means that all their games are accessible via their mobile bingo app, which can be accessed from the sports betting app.

The bingo hall includes 40, 50, 75, 80 and 90 ball bingo variants, making it one of the more diverse mixes in the industry. Throughout each type is a series of rooms, often changing the game type ever so slightly and allowing new themes to be added as and when.

Poker Games

Coral is powered by one of the biggest poker software companies in the world, iPoker. The software means that Coral can integrate a number of features into their poker room making it as advanced as you’re going to find. One of the main benefits to teaming up with iPoker has to be the player database, allowing games to run 24/7, 365 days a year.

You can access the poker room via your mobile by simply downloading the Coal sports betting app and selecting the poker option from there. Alternatively, they do offer a dedicated app called ‘Coral Poker Nobile’ which can be downloaded from the app store, but simply offers you the same product. One of the nice things about Coral is that you only need one account and one wallet to access each of their betting options.

The games on offer are relatively standard for a mid-sized poker such as Coral and with this you get a mix of Texas Hold’em, Omaha, Omaha Hi-lo along with a few mixed games, although traffic in the mixed games is fairly low, especially at off-peak times. But, Coral have introduced the Six Plus Hold’em game, which essentially removes cards ranked from 2-5 in the deck, to make a smaller deck of cards, but an increase in the quality of starting hands. A new concept, but one definitely worth trying!

About Coral

Coral are one of the biggest betting operators in the UK. In fact, in 2005 the company merged with the Gala Group and from there have turned into the third largest bookmaker and bingo operator in the UK. In 2013 the company hit an all time high in terms of revenue seeing numbers upwards of £1.2billion. In the same year Coral also announced that employees from within the firm had surpassed the 20,000 mark for the first time ever.

The company originally started in 1926 by founder Joe Coral. Since then they now own over 1,800 betting shops across the UK and Hundreds throughout Italy, trading under the name Eurobet.

One of the bigger revelations over the last decade for the company has been the merge with Ladbrokes in 2015. Whilst the decision to merge with a rival betting company has gone pretty much under the radar for most, it has meant that the company, combined with two betting platforms, is now officially the largest bookmaker in the UK. The merge has however meant that the companies will keep their respected names, but from a business perspective, they will be known as Ladbrokes Coral.

Coral were also one of the first companies to apply for offices at the new Olympic Park in London. The decision to move here from it’s current head office in Barking, has been a sign of intent for the company in an attempt to cement their roots within the UK.
