888 Review

888 have arguably become one of biggest all-round gambling success stories over the last decade. The company have seen fit to enter sports, bingo, casino and poker sections of the industry, but it’s been the company’s willingness to improve that has seen their reputation rise in this time.

The company are now highly respected in all areas of online gambling and with that a huge amount of credit needs to be given. Throughout this review we will be looking at how they’ve gone about turning themselves from a bit-part player, to a powerhouse within the gambling industry.

Sports Betting

Betting Odds and Markets

The pricing on 888Sport over the last couple of years has seen a massive improvement, and as a result it’s been one of the main reasons why it’s done so well in keeping hold of their players. We have notice that they are one of the top bookmakers for betting on football matches and from the testing we have done have often seen them well within the top 5 bookmakers. What’s been impressive is that on a couple of occasions they have been industry best priced for certain bets, which is no mean feat given how strong the competition is.

Markets has been an area in which they have improved, but it’s still safe to say they do lack a little when compared with some of their rivals. The main sports are all there such as football, horse racing, cricket, tennis, rugby and golf, but the depth of some of the lesser sports are what’s really holding the bookmaker back.

Mobile Betting

The sportsbook is fully accessible on mobile devices and can be downloaded if you are using an iOS device. Like most sportsbooks, Android users will have to settle for the mobile version through their smartphones browser, but it’s still essentially the same. You can either download the app by visiting the App Store, entering your email on the website before they send you a link, scan the QR code on the website or enter your SMS and they’ll text you details for how to download it.

Live Betting

Live betting is a strong card for 888Sport and you’re going to be getting a huge array of markets to bet on. The majority of their football, tennis, rugby, cricket, golf, American football and Basketball games will all hit the live betting section, with a number of games from other, less highlighted sports.

Casino Games

888 Casino is powered by Random Logic software, who are admittedly not the biggest name in the industry. That being said, they do make some of the most eye-catching and entertaining slots in the industry, which is exactly what you want as a casino player. The software can either be accessed via their instant play browser games or by a download version for both Mac and Windows compatible computers.

The software can also be accessed on your mobile device. You can either download this from the App Store or simply visit the casino via your mobile browser to be instantly directed where to go.

Table Games

The table games on offer are actually pretty poor when you compare with others in the same sector. You have about 6 variations of blackjack and about 9 variations of roulette to play, but aside from that, it’s all you’re going to get.

Slots

Unfortunately, slots follow a similar theme to the table games in that there aren’t all that many to choose from. You’ve got about 30 titles in total and whilst in all honesty this is more than enough for the majority of casino players out there, comparing it with other companies such as software providers NetEnt, this is merely a fraction of what the competition are providing.

That being said, the games that are on offer are of a really high quality. For example, A Nightmare on Elm Street is a masterpiece, Superman is stunningly designed and Gonzo’s Quest is one of the all-time classic slots.

Bingo Games

888Bingo is on the Dragonfish network, which like their casino software, isn’t the biggest in the industry by any means. But, you can still pick up 90 and 75 ball bingo, coverall jackpots, progressive jackpots and featured slots. In terms of side games you’re really looking at just slots for the most part, with some of the higher profile titles including Wizard of Oz, Bruce Lee 2, Party Pigs and Elements.

The rooms are played via your browser, with no download version available for desktop players. There is a mobile optimised version available as well, although again it’s not downloadable.

Poker Games

One of the more unique things about the 888 Poker Room is that they are run on their own independent network. This means that they essentially get to pick and choose what they do and how they go about design their software. Whilst this adds a unique concept to the game, it does limit it in terms of traffic somewhat. What we will say is that at peak times the games are actually good, but off-peak they do tend to drop off quite considerably, even to the point of struggling to find a decent game.

That being said, you can both download the poker client to your desktop or you can play via your browser in their instant play format. On top of that, mobile players can simply download to the app to their smartphone or their tablet to get started immediately. The games and player pool for both the desktop version and mobile version are exactly the same.

There’s a good range of games available which include Texas Hold’em, Omaha, Omaha Hi Lo, 7 Card Stud and even 888’s innovative webcam game, where you can see your opponents!

About 888

888 were set up back in 1997, primarily as a casino outlet. They were originally established in Antigua, but now reside in Gibraltar. It was Israeli entrepreneurs Avi and Aaron Shaked who founded the company, but these days Chairman Richard Kilsby and CEO Brian Mattingley are the figureheads behind the brand.

888 held a number of holdings throughout the years, such as Pacific Poker and Casino-On-Net, but it wasn’t until 2006 where they decided to sue their brand name for one of their products. Some claim that the omission of the US market from the online poker industry forced their hand somewhat, and whilst this may be true, they were far less reliant on US custom from Pacific Poker than many of their rivals. The brand change came as a fresh start for 888 and as it turned out, were the starting blocks for one of the biggest brand names in the gambling industry.
